The FORTIFIED™ System

Three tiers. Each one tougher than code.

Developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), FORTIFIED is the only roofing standard engineered specifically to survive hurricanes, hail, and high winds — and the only one insurers reward with premium discounts.

FORTIFIED ROOF

Level 1

Enhanced roof deck attachment, sealed roof deck, impact-rated shingles, and locked-down edges. Stops rain from destroying your home when shingles fail. Qualifies for LA insurance discounts.

FORTIFIED SILVER

Level 2

Everything in FORTIFIED Roof plus reinforced gable ends, chimney bracing, and locked-down soffits and attic vents. Whole-envelope hardening.

FORTIFIED GOLD

Level 3

Silver + continuous load path from roof to foundation. The strongest residential roofing standard in the country. Maximum insurance benefits and hurricane resilience.

Louisiana Fortify Homes Program

The $10,000 grant — how it actually works.

Louisiana's Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) is administered by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. It's a lottery-based grant of up to $10,000 toward a FORTIFIED roof upgrade. Selection is random — no contractor can guarantee it. We can guarantee we'll be ready when you're selected.

1

Create Your Profile

Register at ldi.la.gov/fortifyhomes. Takes 10 minutes. Do this today — before the next round opens.

2

Subscribe to LDI Announcements

Registration rounds open unpredictably. Email notification is the only reliable signal.

3

Register During the Open Window

Windows last ~5 days. Upload homestead exemption, driver's license, insurance dec page (wind coverage required), flood policy if in a FEMA SFHA.

4

Wait for Lottery Selection

LDI notifies selected applicants within 2-4 weeks. If not selected, register again next round.

5

Hire a FORTIFIED Evaluator

15-day window to schedule. Independent third-party — not your contractor. Evaluator fees are out of pocket (~$500).

6

Get 3 Approved Contractor Bids

Required by LDI. This is where we come in. Submit our bid + 2 others to LFHP.

7

Wait for LFHP Acceptance

⚠ Starting work before written acceptance auto-disqualifies you. This is the #1 way homeowners lose the grant.

8

We Install to FORTIFIED Standard

Sealed roof deck, ring-shank fasteners, wind-rated coverings. Evaluator returns to verify and submits documentation to IBHS.

9

Grant Payment & Insurance Discount

LFHP pays us directly. You receive the FORTIFIED certificate — send it to your insurance agent for the mandatory Act 533 discount.

Important: The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program is administered by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Grant selection is by random lottery — no contractor can guarantee selection. Applications must be submitted by the homeowner directly at ldi.la.gov/fortifyhomes. Legacy Fortified Roofing is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Grant amounts up to $10,000; typical FORTIFIED roof projects exceed this, and the homeowner is responsible for costs above the grant.
Louisiana Act 533 (2024)

Every insurer must discount FORTIFIED homes.

Louisiana law requires all admitted insurers to offer actuarially justified premium discounts on FORTIFIED-designated homes. The discount applies to the hurricane portion of your policy — the largest chunk of most Gulf Coast premiums.
