The FORTIFIEDβ„’ System

Three tiers. Each one tougher than code.

Developed by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS), FORTIFIED is the only roofing standard engineered specifically to survive hurricanes, hail, and high winds β€” and the only one insurers reward with premium discounts.

FORTIFIED ROOF

Level 1

Enhanced roof deck attachment, sealed roof deck, impact-rated shingles, and locked-down edges. Stops rain from destroying your home when shingles fail. Qualifies for LA insurance discounts.

FORTIFIED SILVER

Level 2

Everything in FORTIFIED Roof plus reinforced gable ends, chimney bracing, and locked-down soffits and attic vents. Whole-envelope hardening.

FORTIFIED GOLD

Level 3

Silver + continuous load path from roof to foundation. The strongest residential roofing standard in the country. Maximum insurance benefits and hurricane resilience.

The Legacy Install Standard

Every roof. Every crew. Every time.

Consistency isn't a promise β€” it's a process. Here's how we guarantee your roof is installed the same way as the last one that survived the storm.

01 · Sealed Deck
Water Can't Get In.
Self-adhering underlayment across every seam. Even if shingles fail in a hurricane, the deck is watertight.
02 · Calibrated Nail Guns
More Consistent Than Hand-Nailing.
Air-driven nail guns set to the exact PSI and depth-of-drive FORTIFIED requires. Every nail β€” same force, same angle, same embedment. No fatigue, no guesswork, no missed penetration. Verified in the field, documented in the file.
03 · Locked-Down Edges
Where Roofs Fail First.
Wider drip edges and fully-adhered starter strips stop the peel-back that starts most storm-driven roof failures.
04 · Your Choice of Shingle
Class 3 or Class 4 Shingles.
Standard architectural, premium designer, and Class 4 impact-rated systems all installed to the same FORTIFIED standard. You pick the shingle β€” we hold the install spec.
05 · Photo-Documented
Every Layer. Every Fastener.
CompanyCam captures each phase of your install in real time. You see what's under your shingles before they cover it up.
06 · Trained Crews
Same Spec, Every Job.
Not a rotating cast of subs. Every installer follows the same written spec, and a lead verifies the work before we close the job.
Technology Drives Consistency

One roof or one thousand β€” same spec sheet, same fasteners, same photo audits. Calibrated pneumatic nail guns drive every fastener at the same depth and force β€” more consistent than hand-nailing, verified on every job. Every step of your install is documented in CompanyCam so you see exactly what your neighbors down the street can't: the layers, the fasteners, and the quality checks under your shingles. Technology is how we guarantee your install matches the one that survived the last hurricane.

Legacy Technology Advantages

Tools that eliminate the guesswork our competitors leave in.

Every technology on this list exists for one reason: to remove human error from the process, and put verifiable evidence in your hands at closeout.

Drone Roof Inspections
No Ladder. No Guesswork.
High-resolution aerial imaging captures damage, wear patterns, and full deck condition before we ever quote β€” and again after closeout as your digital "before & after" record.
EagleView Takeoffs
Measured to the Inch.
EagleView-powered aerial measurements give exact roof dimensions, pitch, and material quantities. No estimate errors. No mid-project scope surprises. What we quote is what you get.
Digital Job Packet
Everything, at Closeout.
A single PDF at handoff: FORTIFIED evaluator report, product certifications, drone before/after, install photos, warranty registration, insurance documentation. Ready to file, ready to share, ready to keep.
Insurance Documentation
FORTIFIED Paperwork Handled.
The exact documentation your insurer needs to file the Louisiana Act 533 discount β€” prepared by us, delivered with your closeout packet. You don't chase paperwork, you just save on premiums.
Local & Weather-Triggered
First On, First Done.
We live where we work. When storms track toward the Gulf Coast, our crews are already staged β€” not driving in from out of state. Homeowners with active work on file get priority when landfall hits.
CompanyCam Live Feed
Watch From Your Phone.
Log in and see your install as it happens β€” every layer, every fastener, every quality check. The same visibility our biggest commercial clients get, delivered to homeowners.
Louisiana Fortify Homes Program

The $10,000 grant β€” how it actually works.

Louisiana's Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) is administered by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. It's a lottery-based grant of up to $10,000 toward a FORTIFIED roof upgrade. Selection is random β€” no contractor can guarantee it. We can guarantee we'll be ready when you're selected.

1

Create Your Profile

Register at ldi.la.gov/fortifyhomes. Takes 10 minutes. Do this today β€” before the next round opens.

2

Subscribe to LDI Announcements

Registration rounds open unpredictably. Email notification is the only reliable signal.

3

Register During the Open Window

Windows last ~5 days. Upload homestead exemption, driver's license, insurance dec page (wind coverage required), flood policy if in a FEMA SFHA.

4

Wait for Lottery Selection

LDI notifies selected applicants within 2-4 weeks. If not selected, register again next round.

5

Hire a FORTIFIED Evaluator

15-day window to schedule. Independent third-party β€” not your contractor. Evaluator fees are out of pocket (~$500).

6

Get 3 Approved Contractor Bids

Required by LDI. Homeowners must obtain bids from three LFHP-approved contractors and submit them to the program for review.

7

Wait for LFHP Acceptance

⚠ Starting work before written acceptance auto-disqualifies you. This is the #1 way homeowners lose the grant.

8

Approved Contractor Installs to FORTIFIED Standard

Sealed roof deck, ring-shank fasteners, wind-rated coverings. Evaluator returns to verify and submits documentation to IBHS.

9

Grant Payment & Insurance Discount

LFHP pays us directly. You receive the FORTIFIED certificate β€” send it to your insurance agent for the mandatory Act 533 discount.

Important: The Louisiana Fortify Homes Program is administered by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Grant selection is by random lottery β€” no contractor can guarantee selection. Applications must be submitted by the homeowner directly at ldi.la.gov/fortifyhomes. Legacy Fortified Roofing is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Insurance. Grant amounts up to $10,000; typical FORTIFIED roof projects exceed this, and the homeowner is responsible for costs above the grant.
Louisiana Act 533 (2024)

Every insurer must discount FORTIFIED homes.

Louisiana law requires all admitted insurers to offer actuarially justified premium discounts on FORTIFIED-designated homes. The discount applies to the hurricane portion of your policy β€” the largest chunk of most Gulf Coast premiums.
